SUMMIT ENTERTAINMENT TAKES OFF WITH 3-D COMPUTER-ANIMATED FLY ME TO THE MOON
Film To Be Distributed In 3-D In Both Traditional Digital Cinemas And IMAX Venues Los Angeles, CA September 25, 2007 — Continuing to build its theatrical release slate with fresh and dynamic productions, Summit Entertainment announced today that it has acquired U.S. distribution rights to FLY ME TO THE MOON, the first-ever computer-animated feature-length motion picture conceived and realized in 3-D. The movie is produced by nWave Pictures, leading provider of stereoscopic 3-D animation. The film, which tells the story of three 'tween-aged flies that stow away aboard the famed Apollo 11 flight to the moon, stars the voice talents of Christopher Lloyd, Tim Curry, Kelly Ripa, Nicollette Sheridan, Adrienne Barbeau and Robert Patrick. In addition to stunning visuals and a compelling story, the film also allows viewers the opportunity to experience first-hand the activities of the Apollo 11 crew and their mission. Summit plans to release the film across the U.S. on February 15, 2008 in 3-D via three types of venues, underscoring the studio's commitment to emerging technologies designed to enhance the movie-going experience. The film will be presented in both commercial as well as institutional IMAX theaters. Simultaneously, the film will also be presented in today's existing consumer cinemas using the Real D, Dolby 3D, Nuvision and other technologies that are expected to come to market prior to release. "FLY ME TO THE MOON is a prime example of the quality and cut-above films Summit plans to offer to the exhibition community," stated Richard Fay, Summit's President of Domestic Distribution. "As opportunities come into the marketplace for consumers to have an enhanced movie-going experience, Summit plans to be able to offer productions that fit these formats. In addition to FLY ME TO THE MOON's outstanding visual quality, the nWave team has also created a story which will appeal to people of all ages." "We are delighted to be working with Summit Entertainment," says nWave's president Ben Stassen. "3-D cinema seems to be the buzzword in Hollywood these days. I believe this team has the vision and passion to pioneer the release of an immersive 3-D experience like FLY ME TO THE MOON exclusively in 3-D. We are entering into a new era of out-of-home entertainment and we are thrilled to be in partnership with such a dynamic and creative company." Created entirely in 3-D, as opposed to being converted to 3-D after the film is finished, FLY ME TO THE MOON is directed by Ben Stassen and penned by Domonic Paris. The film is an nWave production in association with Illuminata Pictures. Producing are Charlotte Clay Huggins, Caroline Van Iseghem, Gina Gallo and Mimi Maynard. The film is Executive Produced by Eric Dillens along with Stassen and Paris. The rights to the film were negotiated on behalf of Summit by the studio's Chief Operating Officer Bob Hayward along with Fay. Summit Entertainment most recently announced a multi-territory rights agreement for its feature films with Entertainment One (E1), one of the world's leading international independent filmed entertainment distributors. E1 subsidiary, Contender Films, will manage all rights in the UK with E1's Seville Entertainment handling all rights in Canada.
