SUMMIT ENTERTAINMENT NAMES DAVID C. FRIEDMAN GENERAL COUNSEL AND APPOINTS ANDREW MATOSICH AS EVP BUSINESS AFFAIRS
Los Angeles, CA July 30, 2007 — Continuing to expand its senior executive team, Summit Entertainment has appointed David C. Friedman as its Executive Vice President and General Counsel and has appointed Andrew Matosich as Executive Vice President of Business Affairs. Friedman will be responsible for overseeing the legal affairs whilst Matosich will head business affairs for the burgeoning studio. Bob Hayward, Chief Operating Officer, Summit Entertainment, to whom both will report, made the announcement today. "David is a great addition to our senior management team, especially given his depth of studio and industry experience." said Hayward. "Separately Andrew has proved his worth with the 12 years of great service to Summit. David and Andrew make a great team with a good blend of industry respect, experience and commercial acumen." Friedman most recently served as Executive Vice President, Corporate Transactions and Deputy General Counsel for Paramount Pictures. At Paramount, Friedman's chief areas of responsibility included individual and slate motion picture financing and co-financing transactions consisting of equity and territorial co-financing and distribution deals, tax and subsidy arrangements, and significant acquisition, disposition and restructuring transactions. Friedman's expertise also expanded in to international, distribution, corporate and licensing transactions. Friedman joined Paramount in 1995 where he started as a Vice President and Associate General Counsel. Prior to joining Paramount, Friedman was a partner with Sinclair, Tenenbaum, Olesiuk & Emanuel, a private practice law firm representing production companies, individual producers and talent. From 1988 to 1992, he held the title of Vice President and Corporate Counsel for Nelson Entertainment, Inc. where he was responsible for securities compliance and general corporate affairs in addition to entertainment finance, international, distribution and significant corporate transactions. Friedman started his career as an Associate Attorney for Stroock & Stroock & Lavan where he focused on securities, general corporate and financial institutions matters. Friedman received his B.A. in Economics from UCLA in 1981 and his J.D. degree from the Boalt Hall School of Law at U.C. Berkeley in 1984. Matosich previously occupied the position of Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Summit Entertainment L.P. with responsibility for all of Summit's legal and business affairs and elected to move into the business affairs position when Summit's recent expansion required a separation of the functions. Matosich joined the original Summit in 1995 after having been an associate with Bryan Cave in Santa Monica involved in securities litigation and licensing transactions and with Stroock & Stroock & Lavan, where he continued his work in securities litigation while developing an entertainment practice. During his tenure at Summit, Matosich has been responsible for overseeing Summit's international agency and licensing transactions, all litigation and corporate matters and has been instrumental in structuring and negotiating Summit's key financing, distribution and production agreements while leading theatrical business and legal affairs. Matosich received his B.A. in history and political science from University Of Montana in 1984 and his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1992.
