Los Angeles, CA July 25, 2007 — Summit Entertainment has acquired the spec screenplay MENTAL, written by Bear Aderhold and Tom Sullivan. Mandalay Pictures will produce. Erik Feig, President of Production, and Jean Song, VP of Production, are overseeing the project for Summit.
A broad comedy, MENTAL centers around a desperate orderly who has 10 hours to transport a seemingly-stable mental patient from Pasadena to Santa Monica in order to get a piece of the patient's inheritance. What should have been an easy task turns into the road trip from hell as the patient's multiple disorders cause one disaster after another.
"MENTAL is a high concept, classic comedy with great opportunity for a new comic duo," said Feig. "It is exactly the type of film we at Summit are interested in making geared toward the global audience."
Mandalay Pictures President Cathy Schulman said "We were excited to read Bear Aderhold and Tom Sullivan's terrific comic two-hander and to find a second picture to make with our friends at Summit, as the company continues to build its impressive distribution slate."
Mandalay Pictures Executive VP David Zelon, who is currently on set in Orlando filming Mandalay and Summit's GET SOME, introduced the material to Summit's Erik Feig.
Aderhold and Sullivan are repped by Trevor Astbury and Mark Ross at Paradigm, Brad Kaplan and Chris Ridenhour at Evolution Management, and Darren Trattner at Jackoway Tyerman Wertheimer Austen Mandelbaum & Morris.
